WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A man wounded during an attempted home break-in has gotten an invitation to worship with the pastor who shot him. The Sedgwick County prosecutor’s office said the pastor provides assistance to men with alcohol and drug addiction. During a sentencing hearing Friday, the pastor invited 30-year-old Corey Burgardt, of Wichita, to attend his church. Burgardt previously pleaded guilty to a felony count of criminal damage to property and a misdemeanor count of criminal trespass. A vehicle fire that broke out shortly after noon on Friday in the Westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the Riley/Geary County line shut down those lanes for approximately one hour on Friday afternoon. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is unknown but traffic was backed up for at least four miles as crews extinguished the fire and performed cleanup operations. The fire occurred at Mile Marker 316.

Unemployment numbers are up a little in the Manhattan area, according to estimates just released by the Kansas Department of Labor, but are still the lowest in the state. The Manhattan metro area, which includes Riley and Pottawatomie Counties, has a 3.6% rate for March, compared to 3.5% in February but still much lower than last March’s 4.2%. The City of Manhattan, Riley County part, was 3.2%, also up slightly from 3.1 in February. The Manhattan-Junction City Combined Statistical Area showed a 4.1% rate, which was steady with February numbers and lower than last year’s 4.9% in March of 2014.…

As earlier reported on KMAN, Riley County Police officers responded to Allison Avenue in Manhattan Thursday afternoon for a citizen report of suspicious activity at a residence.  Upon arrival to the area officers observed three male juveniles in the vicinity of the residence at 2727 Allison Avenue. When officers began to approach, the  juveniles fled the area on foot.  Further investigation revealed the residence located at 2727 Allison Avenue had been damaged and burglarized. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A Topeka man charged as an accomplice in an alleged Fort Riley suicide bombing plot will be released to his parents’ custody. A judge decided Thursday to release Alexander Blair. That is expected to happen by Monday. Blair’s attorney Christopher Joseph had argued that his client was not a flight risk because he had little money and no car, and said he had fully cooperated with the investigation. John T. Booker Jr. was arrested in an FBI sting operation Friday as he attempted to arm what he thought was a 1,000 pound bomb outside Fort Riley.…
