House Bill 2296 is currently making it’s way through the legislative process. The bill is expected to be discussed next week in Topeka. The bill involves requiring a vote from the public in regards to building financing. As the Riley County Commission recently approved the formation of a public building commission, this could impact them. County Counselor, Clancy Holeman spoke about the bill during Thursday’s meeting. Manhattan High senior Colton Wagner is preparing for the upcoming 2015 Shrine Bowl that will take place on Saturday, July 25th at Fort Hays State University. This past sseason, Wagner was a first team all league selection in helping guide the Tribe to a share of their sixth straight Centennial League title. He was the rock on the offensive line that helped the likes of Chris Martin and Erik Prockish to have fantastic season’s for the Indians. Pottawatomie County District Court held an arraignment hearing Thursday, Feb. 19 regarding a Marysville man who allegedly drove his vehicle into two Manhattan businesses, including the Staples near Tuttle Creek Boulevard. Jason Butler, 36, pleaded “not guilty” to a total of 8 charges in connection with the Dec. 26 incident, including a felony DUI, leaving the scene of an injury accident, abuse of toxic vapors, and driving while suspended. A status hearing for Butler was set for March 19, and his jury trial is scheduled for June 11 and 12 at 8:30 a.m.
A status hearing was held Thursday, Feb. 19 regarding a Pottawatomie County murder case. Christopher Arand, 36, of Belvue appeared in front of Judge Jeff Elder to discuss his mental competency in connection with a Nov. 10 case in which he is accused of murdering his uncle, Larry Arand. According to an affidavit requested by KMAN following the incident, Arand reportedly hit his uncle in the back of the head several times with brass knuckles before suffocating him with a plastic bag. At the hearing, the defense attorney stated that he had received a report from Larned State Hospital indicating possible decomposition of Arand’s mental health…
Riley County Police arrested a 21-year-old Manhattan man on two warrants for motion to revoke probation.Trey Campbell was taken into custody in the 1100 block of Garden Way Wednesday afternoon at approximately 1:50. Campbell’s bond was set at $10,000. Original offenses included unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. Riley County District Court documents show Campbell is set for a two day jury trial in April. As KMAN first reported in early December, Campbell and co-defendant Ty Suggs were arrested in connection with a July case involving a robbery at gunpoint and a reported half-pound of marijuana. ### A…
