ESPN reported late Thursday that Kansas State and Vanderbilt have agreed to a home and home Football series. According to the report, the Wildcats will travel to Nashville in 2017 and the Commodores will make the return trip to Manhattan in 2020. Adding in the two-game set with Mississippi State in 2018 and 2019, K-State will face and SEC opponent for four consecutive seasons. The Wildcats hosted Auburn at Bill Snyder Family Stadium during the 2014 season. Vanderbilt won the only previous meeting on the gridiron between the two schools, a 26-14 decision in Nashville on September 8, 1984.
December unemployment numbers for the Manhattan Metropolitan area in December were up slightly from the month before but still down from the previous year at the same time. 3.7%was the December 2014 number for the Manhattan metro area, which includes Riley, Pottawatomie, and Geary Counties. That’s up from November’s 3.6% but down from 4.4% last year. The city of Manhattan by itself was 3.1%, also up from November but down from last year. The Manhattan Metropolitan area has the second lowest unemployment rate in the state, with December numbers showing the 3.7% number compared to Lawrence/Douglas County’s 3.5%. The city…
On Thursday afternoon the Manhattan City commission met for their annual goal setting leader’s retreat at the Flint Hills Discovery Center. Commissioners and city staffers laid out some of the issues they believed should be the focus for the city. Some of the topics the meeting brought forward included a deeper look into how the economic development fund is handled, and improving customer service elements within the various departments. An alleged aggravated battery case involving a firearm and a marijuana deal, was discussed during a preliminary hearing Thursday afternoon. The incident is said to have taken place back in July, and resulted in the arrest of two men. One of the men arrested in this case is Trey Campbell, who appeared in Judge William Malcolm’s courtroom alongside his attorney, Jillian Waesche. Prosecuting State Attorney, Barry Disney called Hudson Philip to the stand as a witness. For the third time in a year, PEO Chapter IW of Manhattan has been able to provide a continuing education grant to a local student. MATC Nursing Student Lindsey Krajkoski of Junction City was presented with a $1,200 check Thursday at the Manhattan Area Technical College. Krajkoski hopes to finish her RN education by May. The local committee considering Krajkoski’s application included IW Continuing Education Chair Cathy Scroggs, Kris Stafford, Carl Keltner, and Jackie Mershon. An Ogden man facing charges for attempted murder, aggravated robbery, and aggravated burglary pleaded no contest in a preliminary hearing Thursday, Jan. 22. In agreeing to this plea, the suspect, Johnny Cossey, also waived his rights to a jury trial. Judge Meryl Wilson read through Cossey’s charges, which included the infliction of bodily harm by stabbing the victim, identified as Vincent Taylor of Ogden, in the neck, and striking him with a blunt object. Cossey’s next court appearance was set for Monday, Mar. 9th at 2:30 p.m.
