A West Anderson transportation expansion project was on the agenda at the Tuesday Manhattan City Commission meeting. One much discussed topic surrounding the proposed 5.2 to 5.5 million dollar project was the inclusion of roundabouts over traffic lights as the flow of traffic changes. Mayor Karen Mcculloh spoke about safety benefits provided by roundabouts – as much of the commission echoed her endorsement. Commissioners closed the meeting by approving the rezoning of Scenic Crossing near Kimball, also known Scenic Drive, and Anderson Avenues from a business park district to a single family residential district…two family residential district…and a neighborhood shopping district.  35 lots…

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)– Justin Verlander threw his fifth consecutive quality start, and Ian Kinsler homered and drove in three runs as the Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 6-5 Tuesday night. The Tigers, who had lost nine of 10 to drop into last place in the AL Central, snapped a four-game losing streak. Nearly 30 Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce members became part of a new tradition Tuesday, with the members of 50 plus years recognized as 2015 Legacy Circle Honorees. Kansas State released a two-deep depth chart for the 2015 season Tuesday, shedding light on several position battles for the first time. Head coach Bill Snyder and select players met with the media for over an hour to discuss the starting lineup and the Wildcats’ season opener against South Dakota on Saturday. LAWRENCE — A former nurse alleges in a lawsuit that a Lawrence hospital falsified records to increase Medicare and Medicaid payments. The Lawrence Journal-World reports (http://bit.ly/1hsFB3i ) a lawyer for Megen Duffy, a former emergency room nurse at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, filed the “whistleblower” lawsuit in federal court in Kansas City, Kansas. The lawsuit alleges that the fraud started as early as 2007 and involved falsifying arrival times of patients with chest pains to increase federal payments. Riley County Police arrested 24 year old Jesse Hopp of Manhattan Monday afternoon at approximately 1:00 while in the 500 block of Tuttle Creek Boulevard on a Riley County District Court warrant for Violation of the Offender Registration Act. Hopp’s bond was set at $7,500 Riley County Police responded to a report of an unwanted subject in the 400 block of Riley Avenue in Ogden Monday at about 7:31 PM. 50 year old Lana Smith of Denison Texas was eventually placed under arrest for Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Theft. Bond was listed as $8,000.
