(From Fort Riley Public Affairs Office) FORT RILEY, Kansas – About two dozen single soldiers here traveled to Bandera, Texas, in mid-March to hone their leadership, mentoring and resiliency skills. But this wasn’t a military-directed training exercise, it was a voluntary trip led by the Better Opportunity for Single Soldiers, or B.O.S.S., program. The group saddled up Friday night for a weekend at the Rancho Cortez “Cowboy Fitness Ranch” to participate in activities like horseback riding, roping contests and a campfire. But that’s where the cowboy clichés ended. After the long drive from Kansas to Texas, the group was…

As KMAN has previously reported, a couple of vehicle collisions occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. Although no major injuries, several vehicles were involved. Junction City Police Chief, Tim Brown reported that a pick up struck a semi trailer on the 296 east bound exit ramp onto I-70. This accident did result in the exit being closed for some time. Brown said it appeared a few inattentive drivers attempted to look at the accident from the highway, which resulted in another accident. An individual driving on I-70 was reportedly not paying attention when they changed lanes, and caused an accident…

By Chris Kutz, K-State Athletics Communications (Photo Courtesy Kansas State Athletics) MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The K-State baseball team was held to a season-low one hit on Tuesday as the Wildcats dropped the series opener at Minnesota, 5-0, at Siebert Field. The Wildcats (20-23), shut out for the third time this season, were restricted in most part by Golden Gopher starting pitcher Toby Anderson. The right-hander faced the minimum through the first six frames of his seven-inning outing before allowing a one-out single to Tyler Wolfe in the seventh. Anderson also struck out three and did not walk a batter in…
CLEVELAND (AP)– The defending American League champions took a hit Tuesday night, but they weren’t down for long. Kendry Morales’ three-run homer capped a six-run seventh inning and the Kansas City Royals pounded out a season-high 18 hits to beat the Cleveland Indians 11-5 . Kansas City’s big inning came after Cleveland had taken a 5-3 lead on Brandon Moss’ three-run homer in the sixth, but these Royals are playing like a team that plans on doing big things again this season. “The whole vibe is not to give up,” Morales said through a translator. “The vibe on the bench…
The Manhattan City Commission reviewed its street pavement management plan Tuesday. The City currently expends approximately two million dollars worth of resources on road work, but according to Director of Public Works, Rob Ott, that number should be nearly doubled in order to maintain the industry standard for overall road quality. “If we want and try and flatten out the deterioration curve of our streets, obviously somewhere between 3 and 4 million that decline is somewhat less,” Ott said. Doubling resources spent on road maintenance will be a considerable challenge facing the City Commission as it heads into budget season,…
