Riley County Police arrested one of the county’s most wanted criminals, early Saturday morning. 41-year-old Michael Eugene Vassar was arrested while at the Riley County Police Department. Vassar was taken into custody on three counts of failure to appear on charges that include a DUI, refusal of a breathalyzer test, and driving while suspended. Vassar is being held on an $8,000.00 bond and he remains confined in the Riley County Jail.

A Manhattan man who was arrested for shooting two people in early May had is preliminary hearing in Riley County Court Friday. Mark Self Jr. (31) was bound over on two counts of attempted first degree murder and a third count of aggravated weapons violation by a convicted felon. Self was tasered by Riley County Police after shooting Kevin Green (26) of Manhattan and Jeremy Caudill (19) of Fort Riley. The Anthony Nichols Trial wrapped up Friday afternoon with a verdict. Riley County jurors found Nichols guilty of attempted murder. For closing arguments, the state listed the evidence pointing Nichols to the scene of the crime, although the defense claimed it still wasn’t enough to pinpoint Nichols to the trailer in which John Burroughs was killed between the 6th and 7th of September in 2013. An Ogden woman faces drug-related charges following her arrest Thursday by law enforcement officers following a joint investigation by the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office and Riley County Police Department. Jessica Cathcart, 32, was taken into custody after Sheriff Detectives had received information alleging that illegal drug activity was taking place in the vicinity of the Dollar Tree Store located at 624 Tuttle Creek Boulevard in Manhattan. Cathcart’s charges include possession of illegal drugs with a bond of $2,500 dollars and sale of illegal drugs, with bond being set at $10,000.
A Junction City doctor has been arrested on an aggravated sexual battery charge. Allan Holiday was taken into custody Thursday evening at about 5:30. According to Lt. Jeff Childs with the Junction City Police Department, Holiday was arrested after a report from this past Sunday of an alleged aggravated sexual battery of a 16-year-old juvenile. The gender of the juvenile has not been released. Childs indicated after an investigation, Holiday was arrested on probable cause. The incident reportedly occurred at a residence in Junction City. Holiday is listed as an Orthopedic Surgeon at Geary Community Hospital.
The Riley County Police Department continues to investigate a matter involving the alleged sexual exploitation of a child that occurred this month and aggravated indecent liberties with a child that happened in 2012. This investigation began after police received reports of a 31-year-old male contacting a 15-year-old female and possibly requesting that she provide sexually explicit images to him. Police found throughout the investigation that this male may have also inappropriately touched the female victim when she was 12.
