Junction City Police officers responded to a call in September involving a subject who had been shot, and an attempted murder arrest was made Monday in connection with the incident. The victim of the alleged shooting, in the 800 block of South Washington Street in Junction City, was identified as Angel Gonzales-Cintron (25), who had reported-he had been shot during a disturbance that took place in the parking lot of the Budget Host Motel. K-State welcomed Professor Jules Pretty to campus Monday evening for a lecture on agricultural sustainability practices and the need for new methods to farming as the world’s population continues to grow. Pretty is an expert on food systems from the University of Essex in England, and brought his expertise to a full lecture hall of students, faculty and local farmers. Pretty has served in many positions, including chair to the U.K. government’s Advisory committee on Releases to the Environment. The Riley County Police Department will have to dip into its emergency reserve fund by early next year, with unexpected IT requirements impacting the budget. As suggested by Riley County Police Director Brad Schoen, Riley County Law Board members finally approved spending up to $150,000 on the IT upgrades out of the emergency fund, but not without some concerns–such as from Law Board member Wynn Butler. The  IT upgrades are required by mid-January.
