A single vehicle accident left a Texas man injured, on Monday night.  Eric Rivera, 36, was transported to Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, after rolling his 2001 Ford Ranger on westbound I-70, near mile marker 318. The truck left the roadway causing Rivera to overcorrect and the vehicle to roll multiple times through the median and eastbound lanes, before coming to a stop in the south ditch. Rivera was not wearing a seatbelt.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for much of Kansas and Missouri as high temperatures mix with abundant moisture in the air create dangerous conditions. Heat advisories were in effect in both states until noon Monday, when they were being replaced in several counties by excessive heat warnings that expire at 9 p.m. The weather service says temperatures are expected to be in the mid to upper 90s, with heat indices soaring as high as 116 degrees because of the humidity. WESTMORELAND — Pottowatomie County Register of Deeds Betty Abitz reported to county commissioners Monday morning that deeds are up for June. Pottowatomie County had 123 deeds in June and 111 of those were for new sales. There were also 106 mortgages, with eight of those valued at $300,000 and above. Nine were non-taxed. Commission chairman Pat Weixelman said the numbers showed the region’s growth, but did say keeping up with that growth is a challenge. “It’s steady growing and along with that, it brings more problems and situations where we have to allow for that growth,” he said. “It’s a…

A Geary County District Court case has been affirmed by the Kansas Court of Appeals. The Darryl Manco v. State of Kansas case involves an indecent liberties and aggravated criminal sodomy case against Manco more than 20 years ago, with Manco appealing the district courts’ denial of his third motion as succesive and untimely. The 50-year-old defendant claims the restrictions on filing such motions are unconstitutional denials. However the higher court finds, rather than unconstitutional, it is a reasonable limitation in order to stop an abuse of remedy. American Agri-Women or AAW is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a Drive Across America, with the five-month long education and advocacy trek across the United States making a stop in Manhattan Thursday. Kansas Agri-Women, the state affiliate of AAW, is hosting the networking event “Planting our Future” at the Kansas Wheat facility at 1990 Kimball Avenue. Update 7/13/15 Tierre Wall of Fort Riley appeared in court Monday morning for a status hearing. Wall asked Judge David Stutzman to appoint him an attorney. This comes after Wall requested to hire his own attorney at his last court appearance on June 25th. Wall and his attorney at the time, Mark Dinkel said there was a breakdown in communication between the two. Another status hearing is scheduled for August 10th.
