A 21-year-old Junction City man was arrested close to noon on Tuesday for an aggravated criminal threat after reporting there was a bomb at Florence Manufacturing in the 5900 block of Corporate Drive. Early Tuesday morning, officers with the Riley County Police Department responded to a single vehicle collision in the 1900 block of Pillsbury Dr. 34-year-old Nicolas Cuevas-Castanan of Council Grove, was driving a 2005 Hyundai Sonada northbound on Pillsbury Dr. with passenger Jose Vazquez, 20, when it left the roadway and rolled multiple times before coming to rest. Cuevas-Castanan was momentarily entrapped in the vehicle while Vazquez was able to find help. Cuevas-Castanan suffered significant injuries and was transported to Via Christi Hospital and then life-flighted to a medical care facility outside of Riley County. Wamego’s USD 320 Board of Education got an overview of how children are moved throughout the district. during a Monday meeting, Director of Operations Larry Hannan gave the new board members an overview of transporting students. He said the number of registered riders is on the increase, and he feels the numbers will continue to grow. He went over how the bus route is put together and how drivers are trained. Wamego’s USD 320 Board of Education discussed allowing home-schooled students to participate in elective activities. At a Monday meeting, Superintendent Denise O’Dea said she’d been contacted by parents with a request to allow their home-schooled students to participate in sporting activities and band. She said the District has allowed this in the past due to a reimbursement rate, but due to Block Grant funding, there is no longer any reimbursement. She suggested the board treat elective participation by home-schooled students the same as out-of-district students adhering to the district’s recent policy change. Wamego’s USD 320 Board of Education approved the 2016 Budget with no opposition. At a Monday meeting, Superintendent Denise O’Dea said the 2016 budget is extremely tight, and went over the details. She said the local option budget funding is frozen by a Block Grant, requiring a mill levy increase of 2.005 mills. The total budget for the USD 320 District is over $28,789,742 – an increase of over $1,429,000. The Board approved funding Capital Outlay by 4 mills. WAMEGO — Dr. Milton Wolf, a Leawood radiologist who challenged U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts last year, confronted U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran during one of Moran’s “listening stops” this morning. At issue were reports of X-Rays posted on social media and the subsequent divulgence of an investigation of Wolf by the Kansas Board of Healing Arts prior to the 2014 primary election. Wolf told the group in Wamego he had been exonerated. “They couldn’t provide a complaint against me or a single patient with a complaint against me.” He also thanked Wamego for standing by him after the allegations were made.…
