A Manhattan man accused of running a stop sign and pulling in front of a pregnant woman’s vehicle appeared for his preliminary hearing in Riley County District Court Tuesday morning and was bound over by the judge. Ryan Routson will be arraigned on June 22 at 9:30 a.m. in the Riley County District Court in front of Judge David Stutzman. He will face counts that include involuntary manslaughter while DUI, aggravated  battery while DUI along with unlawful possession of methamphetamine. After considerable discussion, Pottawatomie County Commissioners Monday approved spending $18,000 with BG Consultant for a space needs assessment of the county’s buildings and facilities. Project Engineer Karen Weathers and Project Manager/Architect Clint Hibbs presented to the commission, with Weathers stressing this is one step in the process. Weathers added there may be more study required. And she says when a plan is done like this, it provides a level of confidence for constituents. Police filed a report for aggravated criminal sodomy in the city limits of Manhattan on June 7th at approximately 3:45 p.m.  for an incident that occurred the night prior. Officers found that a 19-year-old male and a 22-year-old male victim were involved in unwanted sexual activity with a male whom they had met and were staying with overnight. On June 9th at approximately 2:10 a.m. police made an arrest in connection with the reported incident.  Jase D. Stanton (28) of 511 Fremont in Manhattan, was arrested for aggravated criminal sodomy. Wamego’s USD 320 Board of Education opposed several requests due to budget constraints.  At Monday’s meeting, the Soccer proposal that was presented at the last meeting was reviewed.  After the board studied the proposal, President Richard Weixelman said he didn’t know how they could approve the request because of the cost of the district.  After weighing all the issues, a motion was made to deny the proposal for soccer as an added sport.  The motion passed by a vote of 6 to 1, with Board member Joe Steele opposed.   The board denied a request from a patron to waive the…

Outstanding board members earned recognition recently. Wamego’s USD 320  Superintendent Denise O’Dea, presented plaques to outgoing board members for their years of service, during Monday night’s board of education meeting.  Recipients included Mark Bettencourt who served four years, Richie Chrest who served 13 years and Richard Weixelman who served 32 years.  Weixelman was honored for serving 20 of the 32 years in a leadership position, with 10 years as President and 10 years as Vice President.   Weixelman received a standing ovation from everyone in attendance.  Michele Johnson received a plaque for completing the unexpired term of Ken Hitch and for…

An attempt to stop a vehicle in Geary county for speeding led to a law enforcement chase Monday, with three Kansas City men ending up in the hospital. The Kansas Highway patrol reports the incident occurred Monday morning on eastbound I-70 at the Grandview Plaza exit. A 2000 Audi driven by Arturo Molina, 20, fled after an attempt to stop him, and reportedly drove recklessly through traffic, with the vehicle exiting the interstate at the Grandview Plaza exit but coming to a stop after striking an embankment.
