As part of the nation’s strategy to degrade and destroy ISIL, about 200 soldiers from the Division Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion will deploy to Baghdad and Iraq.  The other 300 soldiers will deploy to the Central Command area of responsibility. A casing ceremony was held at Victory Park on Fort Riley Wednesday morning for those soldiers going overseas. The sound of the cannon officially started the ceremony, and Master Sgt. Riley County Police were asking motorists to avoid the area of Claflin and Hartford if possible during the noon hour (Wednesday). Police were heading to the scene of a vehicle collision that may cause delays. ### A Lawrence man was arrested by Riley County Police on a warrant for unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, including a felony and misdemeanor, and possession of a hallucinogenic drug.  Leonard Suber, 23 was taken into custody while at the Riley County Courthouse on Tuesday afternoon at about 2:00. Wamego property owners came out in force to protest several issues at Tuesday night’s Wamego City Commission  meeting. City Manager Merl Page introduced the rezoning of the James Ebert property located at 1603 Fourth Street. The original request was to rezone from an R-1 to R-3, but was sent back to the Planning Commission for reconsideration to an R-2 several times after neighbor protests. The Riley County Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance after an incident involving subjects who were thought to be armed. This incident occurred in the 1200 block of Kearney Street in Manhattan this morning at approximately one o’clock. The victim, a 25-year-old male was reportedly approached by two unidentified males and forced to drive them to an ATM. They demanded that the victim give them money or face physical injury. Before these crimes could escalate further, police were contacted with a description of the victim’s vehicle and were able to locate it and perform a traffic stop. At…

The Manhattan City Commission approved a request to rezone the proposed Mercy Regional Health Center PUD from a single-family district to a Commercial PUD. Plans include a 70,000 square foot building, which will house Via Christi offices and other medical practice tenants. The development plan also includes new digital signage. ——- Manhattan’s Convention and Visitor’s Bureau presented its third quarterly report to the City Commission, Tuesday evening. The justices cleared the way Monday for an immediate expansion of same-sex marriage by unexpectedly and tersely turning away appeals from five states seeking to prohibit gay and lesbian unions. The court’s order effectively makes gay marriage legal now in 30 states.
