Previous Riley County Commission meetings have featured discussions regarding sign regulations. But, during Monday’s meeting, commissioners were able to view the proposed draft regulations that could possibly be implemented before the end of year. A group of individuals, including Planning and Special Projects Director, Monty Wedel, looked at the current regulations, and adjusted them as they felt was necessary. Wedel explained the group tried to stay as consistent as possible with the city’s regulations. It was a standing room only crowd at the Pottawatomie County Commission chambers Monday morning, with several concerned citizens wanting to know the status of Belvue Bridge. The group wanted assurances from the commissioners that they still support an eventual new bridge. Commissioner Pat Weixelman stressed community support would be needed when it comes time to finance the project. Commission Chair Stan Hartwich added he’s been supportive of a new bridge all along. The cacophony erupts as soon as you enter the Kansas state fair in Hutchinson. Organizers say over 350,000 people are set to attend the event over the 10 days the fair is open to the public. Today the sounds of animals, amusement rides, and the crowd was intermingled with the familiar call of the Kansas State University marching band playing next to a small picturesque lake in the park.
