This weekend Wamego saw an influx of well over 11 thousand visitors as the 26th annual Kansas Sampler took over Wamego City Park. Organizers say the festival highlights what there is to see, do , hear, taste, buy and learn in Kansas. Festival officials say it serves to preserve the history of the diverse elements seen in the state over the centuries. Festival founder Marci Penner says it brings the best of Kansas to one location to educate those who want to see the many opportunities available in Kansas. After attending Sunday mass in Baltimore, Maryland’s governor encouraged people to come back to the city and support local businesses. He’s also called for Sunday to be a statewide “Day Of Prayer And Peace” after civil unrest rocked Baltimore.

UPDATED 6:50 a.m. Sunday-According to PIO Mat Droge, shots were fired in the 600 block of N 12th Street at around 1:20am. Officers on foot patrol responded immediately and gave chase to one male suspect, who was found to be in possession of a handgun. After deploying a taser the suspect was taken into custody. Droge also noted one adult male was transported to Via Christi Hospital with injuries that were non-life threatening. That individual has already been released from medical care. Former Kansas State Cornerback Randall Evens joined Wide Receiver Tyler Lockett as the second player from the Wildcat roster to be drafted as he was selected at 196th overall in the sixth round by the Philadelphia Eagles. Lockett was selected in the third round on Friday night at #69 by the Seattle Seahawks. Other players who were not dratfed wound up signing free agent deals including Offensive Lineman B.J. Finney with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Linebacker Ryan Mueller with the San Diego Chargers, Linebacker Jonathon Truman with the Miami Dolphins and Quarterback Jake Waters with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
