Starting Monday, North Manhattan Avenue will be closed to all thru traffic from north of Research Park Drive/Keen Drive to Flint Hills Place. The street will be closed until August 18, but will shift north of Flint Hills Place in July. Detours Thru traffic should use Tuttle Creek Boulevard or Denison Avenue. Bill Guthridge who played on K-State’s 1958 Final Four Men’s Basketball team and who served as an assistant coach under Tex Winter during the Wildcats’ most recent trip to the Final Four in 1964 passed away late Tuesday night in Chapel Hill, N.C. with his family by his side at the age of 77. Guthridge, a native of Parsons, Kan. played Guard for K-State from 1957-60 and was then an assistant under Winter from 1932-67. He then had a 30-year stint for Dean Smith at North Carolina from 1967-97 which included two National Championship seasons in 1982 and 1993. Guthridge…

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)– Alex Gordon put the Kansas City Royals back ahead in a flash, and Greg Holland made good on his second chance. Gordon homered on the first pitch of the 10th inning and the Royals beat the Texas Rangers 7-6 Tuesday night. “I just said if I get a good pitch to hit, a fastball down the middle or something, I’m just going to get a good swing on it,” Gordon said. The Manhattan City Commission revisited its list of 2015 goals and projects Tuesday, which essentially served as a budget primer for new Commissioners like Linda Morse. “It’s perfect to have this kind of background information on the projects that are coming and the estimate of what the cost will be,” said Morse.
