KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals’ clubhouse mood was somber after a 6-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Eric Hosmer will be going on disabled list after an X-ray revealed a displaced fracture of the third finger of his right hand. Hosmer was hit by pitch from Jon Lester on July 20 and was held out of the lineup for six of the next seven games. WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas, a member of the U.S. Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, supported the agreement struck Thursday between the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives on legislation to overhaul access to veterans’ health care – the Veterans Access to Care Act. The “welcome to Manhattan” sign near the Bubble Wash off of K-18 may need to be re-located.  This was one of the discussed items during Thursday’s Riley County Commission meeting. The sign displays four recognizable logos from four different entities.  The commission was told the four symbols cannot be put on a welcome sign near the freeway. After not being included in the top 25 of any major poll at any point during the 2013 season, the Kansas State Wildcats check in at number 21 in the Preseason Amway Football Coaches Poll released Thursday. K-State was also #21 in the 2012 Preseason Coaches Poll and rose as high as number 1 in the BCS Standings following a 10-0 start that season which eventually ended in a Big 12 Championship. Two Riley County Police Officers made separate traffic stops that lead to the discovery of a kidnapped teenager in Manhattan. Early Wednesday morning shortly after one a.m. an officer stopped a vehicle for speeding. During the traffic stop the occupants informed the officer that their 16 year old female friend had been kidnapped by Stephanie Sanborn (30) of Manhattan. Another officer conducted a traffic stop shortly after 1:10 a.m. Wedesday on a vehicle driven by Sanborn. The vehicle was also occupied by a 16-year-old female and 17-year-old male.
