While numbers are unofficial but final, the Manhattan City Commission will apparently have two new commissioners following Tuesday night’s election, including Linda Morse and Mike Dodson. Morse emerged quickly to gain a seat on the board and was the front-runner throughout the evening. As far as Morse’s goals, she said she wants to maintain the expected growth in the right way. Morse credited part of her success to the “wonderfully active group of supporters” who helped her. After a short presentation by outgoing Manhattan Regional Airport Director Peter VanKuren the Manhattan city commission voted to move forward with an ordinance giving the go ahead to conduct an initial RFP for the new fixed base operations facility (FBO). Financing will be provided through the general obligation fund, and the FBO provider will be sought to finalize an agreement where they would service the annual debt. The commission expressed satisfaction with the passing of the ordinance. According to officials the FBO is an operational package that has been ongoing for over five years. The one ballot question this election season passed overwhelmingly, with Wamego voters saying yes to an ordinance allowing construction work by property owners on their own property without employing contractors licensed by the City of Wamego. The matter was discussed at several City Commission meetings, before being placed on the ballot. As the unofficial election numbers indicate below, the modification to current ordinance passed by a three to one margin.
