As KMAN previously reported, the Riley County Police Department along with the Manhattan Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 831 Colorado Street in Manhattan on Monday. This fire damaged an unoccupied residence and was ultimately extinguished by 6 fire apparatus and 17 firefighters. The fire was ruled by fire investigators to have been set intentionally. Manhattan High School theater students are traveling to Edinburgh, Scotland for the upcoming Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The festival is the largest arts and film festival in the world and has taken place every August in Edinburgh since 1947. The MHS thespians will perform their 50 minute anti-bullying play “Barnyard” while at the festival. This play was written by Manhattan High alumnus Richard Broadhurst. The theater group invites the public to see their final rehearsal performance before taking their talents across the Atlantic and into Europe. The rehearsal will take place Friday, July 25 at 2pm in…

Update on 7/23/14 at 4:00 p.m.: As KMAN reported Tuesday morning, members of the Junction City Police Department responded to a call in reference to shots fired. Additional information was released Wednesday afternoon. The incident is said to have occurred on West 6th Street in Junction City, where the Wendy’s fast food restaurant is located. CHICAGO — When the Chicago White Sox scheduled Greek Heritage Night for Tuesday, they probably didn’t consider that Mike Moustakas would be in the visiting dugout. Moustakas put a capper on the festivities by homering twice to help the Kansas City Royals snap a four-game losing streak with a 7-1 rout. Yet another fire has been reported overnight by the Manhattan Fire Department. At 2:00 a.m. (Wednesday) the Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to 823 Colorado Street for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found a detached garage structure with heavy fire showing throughout the structure. Four fire apparatus and fourteen firefighters initially responded to the fire and it was contained within minutes.The structure was vacant at the time of the fire. The Manhattan City Commission met Tuesday for the fifth and final 2015 budget work session. The latest budget total for 2015 sits at $134.39 million, a $3.6 million increase from 2014. Additionally, latest version of the proposed mill levy increase for 2015 is roughly half of what it was when budget season started. “We started at a 2.65 mill levy increase and as we stand here at the 5th work session, a 1.288,” said Hillary Badger, assistant director of finance.
