Riley County Police are investigating the reported theft of a 1994 Ford F-250.The vehicle was reported as stolen by Midwest Wholesale of Manhattan in the 500 block of Fort Riley Blvd. The F-250 is white in color and reportedly became missing between the 8th and 9th of this month. Its estimated value is listed as $2,500 and currently the suspect or suspects are unknown. Those with information about this vehicle are asked to contact RCPD or the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. The report was filed late Thursday morning.
The unemployment rate in the Manhattan metropolitan area went up a little since last month. According to numbers released by the Kansas Department of Labor, which indicates a 5.0 percent rate for June, compared to a 4.3 percent rate for May. Last year at this time in June the rate was 5.7 percent. The Manhattan metro area includes Riley, Pottawatomie, and Geary Counties. The city by itself recorded a 4.2 percent rate for June, which is slightly higher than May’s 3.6, but lower than June 2013 when it was 4.7 percent. OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A National Transportation Safety Board report on an Oklahoma plane crash that killed two Kansas men says a part of the aircraft was found more than a mile from the crash site. The April 7, 2013, crash killed retired gynecologist Ronald Marshall of Manhattan, Kansas, and Chris Gruber, the development director for the college of veterinary medicine at Kansas State University in Manhattan. The NTSB factual report released Wednesday says the fiberglass belly skin panel of the plane was found about 1.4 miles from the site. It does not offer a suspected cause of the crash. The…
A Leonardville man facing a second degree murder charge in a 2008 case in Riley County is now set for an October first hearing. Howard Barrett, 58, is accused in the February 2008 stabbing death of Thomas James, 48, of Clay Center, who was trying to do pest control work in Barrett’s apartment in Leonardville. The new hearing date was set earlier in the week (Juy 15th). A couple of weeks ago a request from Barrett’s attorney was approved that a competency hearing and jury trial be reset and that the attorney be allowed to withdraw due to communication issues…
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A Republican group wants a Kansas state representative to apologize for characterizing GOP politicians supporting a Democratic candidate as “nursing home” residents. Democratic gubernatorial candidate Paul Davis announced earlier through Republicans for Kansas Values that dozens of former and current GOP officials endorsed him rather than likely GOP nominee Gov. Sam Brownback in the 2014 election. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports Republicans for Kansas Values wants an apology from Republican State Rep. J.R.
