The Geary County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call in reference to an unresponsive individual in the east bound rest area at mile marker 310 on I-70. Deputies, along with Junction City Fire and EMS, responded to the call on Tuesday and located the subject who was unresponsive and lying in the parking area next to a moving van. The Geary County Coroner responded and pronounced the subject dead at the scene. The individual was later identified as Keith Morrison (47) of Aurora, Colorado. The Legislature sparred Tuesday over a measure that would create statewide standards for livestock producers trying to obtain permits. Geary County’s Delivering Change: Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies program has expanded to Riley County. “We’re excited to partner with Geary Community Hospital and Geary County and Riley County,” said John Broberg, Senior Administrator for Mercy Regional Health Center. The program was created in response to a growing need for pre and postnatal education and health care access, as identified in the 2010 Community Health Needs Assessment and later confirmed by the 2014 Community Needs Assessment in Riley County. A jury trial was held in Riley County District Court in August for Christopher Bates. He was later found guilty of aggravated indecent liberties with a child under the age of 14, but was found not guilty of an earlier charge. This all stems from sexual assaults involving two children in the summer of 2013. Sentencing for Bates was finally held on Tuesday afternoon, where he changed his plea on two of the counts.
