During Wednesday’s monthly meeting, Manhattan/Ogden board members covered board elections, appointments, budget planning for the 2015-16 school year and Independence Day reminders. Each July, the board elects a President and Vice President for a year-long term serving the school board. Board member Marcia Rozell was elected President with a unanimous 7 to 0 vote and members welcomed board member Aaron Estabrook to serve as Vice President. OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) Police in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park, Kansas, say two people have died in a shooting. The ages and identities of the victims and details of the shootings have not been released. Officers who responded to the scene Tuesday evening say they found one victim injured in the street and a second person dead in a house nearby. The injured man later died at a hospital. Investigators say they are processing a “very large area” involving several crime scenes.
There’s a new green roof at Kansas State University’s Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art. Exhibition Designer Lindsay Smith says the “Cairns on the Beach” courtyard installation has been in the works the past two years, but is now available for viewing and the enjoyment of Museum patrons… Smith explains the purpose of the pre-vegetated modules or plantings around the stone sculptures are to soften and add color. Several Manhattan residents got a scare Tuesday afternoon when a man fired “test” shots from a pellet gun near a pawn shop. Riley County police responded to the scene at 416 S. 4th Street around 4:20 PM after receiving reports of a man firing what was believed by bystanders to be a rifle. Officers arrived on scene and were able to determine that this unknown male was test firing an air rifle (pellet gun) near a local pawn shop. A Manhattan man is behind bars Wednesday after police say an argument escalated into violence. Earnest Johnson, 51, was arrested at 1000 Pierre Street June 30, around 8:30 AM. He’s charged with aggravated domestic battery. Johnson was arrested after probable cause was found supporting claims that he attempted to strangle the victim. Due to the nature of the crime, the victim’s name is not being released. Also arrested while officers were on scene was Jennifer Vandermark, 47, of Manhattan. Vandermark was arrested for the offense of criminal damage to property after a tire and vehicle belonging to Johnson was damaged.…
