A mobile home fire in Clay County led authorities to finding an apparent marijuana growing operation this past weekend.   Clay County Sheriff Chuck Dunn tells KMAN Wakefield firefighters were called to the 500 block of Elm at about one a.m.Saturday. While fighting the fire and attempting to determine a cause, an apparent grow operation was discovered and Dunn’s office was notified.   Dunn says more than 50 marijuana plants were found in various stages of growth. For the second consecutive year three members of the Kansas City Royals will be part of the American League All-Star team. Alex Gordon, Greg Holland and Salvador Perez who were part of the AL’s 3-0 victory last summer at Citi Field in New York will be in uniform for the Midsummer Classic July 15 in Minneapolis. CLEVELAND (AP)– Terry Francona heard the boos from the home crowd, and the Cleveland Indians manager didn’t mind one bit. Francona pulled Corey Kluber two outs short of a complete game in Cleveland’s 4-1 win over Kansas City on Sunday. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas legislators will face renewed pressure next year to provide additional legal protections to gay marriage opponents who want to avoid accommodating same-sex couples for religious reasons. A “religious freedom” measure failed in the Legislature earlier this year, even though conservative Republicans control both chambers and top GOP leaders strongly support the state constitution’s gay marriage ban.
