The Manhattan High girls defeated Shawnee Heights 50-35 to pull in a current four way tie for first place in the Centennial League with five games left on the schedule. Caroline Ballard had 17 points to lead the MHS girls. Gigi McAtee pitched in with 9 points. The MHS girls (12-3, 6-2) join Shawnee Heights, Washburn Rural and Hayden, all at 6-2 in the league. The Manhattan City Commission reviewed revenue projections for this year in what was essentially a first-look at next year’s budget. “A couple of the Commissioners were concerned, ‘well what happens if the State cuts funding to a certain project?’, for me then that means that project does not get funded. It’s just that simple,” said Wynn Butler, mayor. Inmates convicted in connection with three Geary county cases are up for public comment sessions and possible parole. Tabor Adkins, 67, was convicted for cases in 1983 of attempted murder in the first degree, aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated sodomy. Terry Kirchoff, 49, was convicted for involuntary manslaughter in 1987, as well as criminal damage to property in Geary County in 1985, and aggravated burglary and rape cases in the early 1990s in Lyons County. The final inmate up for possible parole is Carlos Rodriguez-Martinez, 44, whose conviction was for indecent liberties with a child in 2010. Public comment session will be…
