Twin sisters often have an unbreakable bond, and after starring for four years at Riley County, Madison and Makayla Vargo will carry on their basketball careers together at Washburn University. The Vargos plan to ink their national letters of intent with the Lady Blues next week, following a 22-2 senior campaign that included another trip to the 3A state tournament. Madison and Makayla were both on the all Mid-East League first team this past season, while Madison was also named first team 3A all-state after averaging 18 points per game during her senior season.

Named to the all-Big 12 freshman team last fall, K-State setter Katie Brand has been selected to participate in the US  Collegiate National volleyball team program. Brand earned the spot at a tryout in February, and is one of 36 athletes that will train and compete at the Junior National Championships from June 22nd – July 1st in Minneapolis. Brand is among three players chosen to represent the Big 12 conference on the team. The Manhattan City Commission and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board met Tuesday to further scrutinize potential renovations to Peace Memorial Auditorium, and the addition of new Parks and Rec offices to City Hall. After beginning the process in the summer of 2012, and after long meetings and passionate public input, the Commission entered into a contract with Bruce McMillan Architects last fall to complete preliminary designs for the new offices and renovations to the Auditorium. Update 10:00 Wednesday morning Riley County Police released the names of the individuals involved in the motor vehicle accident in Ogden Tuesday afternoon. Johnny Cossey (38) was driving a 2004 Lincoln LS northbound down Walnut Street across Riley Avenue, when it collided with two motorcycles that were traveling westbound on Riley. The operators of those motorcycles were identified as James Garrett III (48) and Steven Cannon Jr. (29). Garrett was transported via Life Star Helicopter to Via Christi Hospital in Wichita for injuries, and his current condition is unknown.  Cannon was transported by Riley County EMS to Mercy Regional Health Center…
