Over the course of several months, Riley County Police officers have responded to numerous calls from Britt’s Farm, located off Scenic Drive.  Officers have responded to gunshot calls, underage drinking reports, and battery instances. RCPD Cpt. Josh Kyle provided the county commission with an update on this matter during their Thursday meeting. Kyle shared a few stories of previous experiences officers have had at these gatherings.  According to Cpt. Kyle, a beer bottle was thrown at a police car, a man suffered injuries after being beat to the ground and kicked in the head, and gunshots have reportedly been fired.…

There’s a new event center in the works that would take up the corner of 12th and Laramie streets in Manhattan, and an update came through about the status of the building plans this week. Rob Hayes, President of Stan Hayes Enterprises says he’s tweaking a few things in order to conform to set cost standards. A Kansas State University alumnus and one of the leaders of the Green Revolution will receive an honorary doctorate from Kansas State University. Wayne Freeman will be honored at the university’s Graduate School commencement at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, in Bramlage Coliseum. He also will serve as the commencement speaker at the ceremony. The awarding of the honorary doctorate follows the approval by the Kansas Board of Regents. It is one of the highest honors the university can give. Students’ Advisory Committee The Students’ Advisory Committee, chaired by K-State’s Student Body President Reagan Kays, opposed proposed changes to Kansas Statute 76-742: Student fees for debt service on academic or health facilities. A 22-year-old Manhattan man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after an investigation into criminal damage to property. Ivan Beaulieu  was taken into custody at approximately 1:30 PM. He was arrested for arson and criminal damage to property, with a bond of $50,000. Riley county Police say Beaulieu’s arrest stemmed from an incident involving burned carpet and clothing that belonged to a roommate and an apartment company.

FORT CARSON, Colo. (AP) A Fort Carson, Colorado soldier has been convicted of premeditated murder in the Valentine’s Day 2013 slaying of his soldier-girlfriend who was stationed at Fort Riley. A military jury returned the verdict Wednesday night against Sergeant Montrell Lamar Mayo of Greenville, South Carolina. Mayo’s girlfriend, 28-year-old Sergeant Kimberly Walker of Cincinnati, Ohio was found dead on a bed sprinkled with rose petals at a motel in Colorado Springs near Fort Carson. Updated 5:30 a.m. Thursday: A 57-year-old Manhattan man was injured in an accident in the 68-hundred block of Anderson Avenue, about eight miles west of Manhattan, shortly after nine Wednesday night. The accident resulted in the closing of that stretch of road for about three hours. Michael Perry was taken to the University of Kansas Hospital by Life Star following the accident.
