A Wamego man has died while in custody at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility, according to a press release from David Thompson of the Kansas Department of Corrections. Chancellor Copenhaver, 33, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, according to the release. He was found unresponsive in his cell Wednesday morning. Christine Weixelman on Wednesday said she was disappointed to hear from families who’d received inconsistent or no communication about changes or cuts to their children’s special ed services. Featuring two seniors, six juniors, and one sophomore on varsity, the Indians only return four individuals with substantial varsity minutes. Pottawatomie County needs to develop housing that costs between $1,279 and $2,557 per month to increase the number of affordable places for workers to live, according to a new report from the Pottawatomie County Economic Development Corporation. Previously, Pottawatomie County EcoDevo officials projected by 2040 the county’s population will range between 33,380 and 36,081 people — with 34,971 as the median. That’s an increase of more than 11,000 people since 2016, which will require 4,189 additional housing units. Junction City has named a new city manager following a national search to replace Allen Dinkel. Kim Zimmerman was announced as the new manager, as he was selected from a field of 26 candidates for the post. Zimmerman will bring experience as the chief administrator of the Borough of Lewiston, Pennsylvania and previously as city manager at Ridgway, Pennsylvania. He also served more than 20 years as an active-duty logistics officer for the U.S. Army. Dinkel retired this summer after serving nearly a decade in the Junction City post. A Manhattan man remains behind bars after being arrested Tuesday evening on a slew of charges. 27-year old Corey Justin Troxel is being held in the Riley County Jail on a bond of nearly $21,000 after being charged with seven counts of variable offenses. The charges include two counts of burglary, one count of attempted burglary, one count of assault, one count of battery, one count of theft valued at $25,000 to $100,000, and one count of theft valued less than $1,500. RCPD did not release any additional details related to the arrest.
