A few Randolph residents were in attendance for Thursday’s Riley County Commission meeting, which was held in Randolph. This was the third stop on the commission’s small towns tour, with the last stop being in Leonardville next week. The commission was made aware of a unique situation by Riley County Police Department Director, Brad Schoen, during his presentation. Large parties, recently held at a commercial agricultural location in Riley County, have resulted in a few alcohol related situations and minor problems. Two Kansas Department of Corrections inmates serving time on Geary County convictions have apparently been passed over for parole. Keith Brown’s earliest possible release date is now set for October of 2021. Brown, 56, was convicted in Geary county in 1991 on charges of aggravated burglary, rape,and aggravated robbery. He most recently has been held at the El Dorado Correctional Facility. Alex Mackey, 56, has been serving time on a 1983 theft charge in Geary County, although he has more serious convictions of aggravated robbery and burglary and drug-related counts in Sedgwick, Finney, and Atchison Counties. K-State just missed the top 25 in the preseason coaches poll, checking in as the third highest team in the receiving votes category. The Wildcats got 37 votes and are one of six Big 12 teams to make an appearance. Kansas (#5) and Texas (#10) are both in the top ten, and Iowa State (#14) isn’t far behind. Oklahoma (#19) also made the top 25, and Baylor received two votes. The Wildcats were picked fourth in the Big 12 by the league’s coaches. The season starts on November 9th with an exhibition game against Washburn.
A Manhattan man already facing charges in connection with an aggravated robbery and kidnapping, now faces an additional charge.Kaywaun Washington, 25, was arrested while at the Riley County Police Department for the offense of motion to revoke probation which was listed on a warrant from Riley County. The bond associated with this warrant was listed as $5,000.00. Washington also faces charges in connection with an aggravated kidnapping and robbery case reported in the 1300 block of Flint Hills Place in Manhattan a week ago Wednesday. An Olathe man charged with involuntary manslaughter in Riley County has waived his preliminary hearing that was to have been held Thursday. Gregory Melvin Haug Jr.’s arraignment is now set for October 27th. Haug’s charges also include possession of opiates and/or narcotics, conspiracy, and obstruction of the legal process. The charges stem from the November 20th death of K-State student Jordan Forbit, who was found dead in a vehicle in a K-State residence hall parking lot. An affidavit indicates an autopsy revealed Forbit died of morphine intoxication, commonly referred to as a heroin overdose. Syringes and other items found at the scene were…
