The Manhattan Fire Department capped off Fire Prevention week with its annual open house Sunday afternoon at fire station Headquarters. “We have a lot of our really cool special equipment out, we have old Engine One that gives rides, we have some crews doing training evolution so people can see what it’s like when we go into a fire,” said Gregg Van De Creek, MFD fire driver. Another aggravated robbery/aggravated kidnapping arrest has been made by Riley County Police. While details regarding which robbery is involved are not yet available, Sunday morning’s RCPD arrest report indicates Kaywaun Washington, 25, of Manhattan was taken into custody at 1:30 a.m. Sunday on charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated kidnapping, and kidnapping. Washington’s bond was set at $150,000. As reported by KMAN Friday, Ortegas Tune, 26, of Manhattan was arrested on the same charges Thursday evening. (Photo Courtesy Kansas State Athletics) David Garrett who played Cornerback for Kansas State for three years which included two bowl games, died early Saturday after he was shot outside of a nightclub in his native Cleveland, Ohio. According to a report in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the shooting occurred shortly before 3:30 a.m. local time Saturday outside the Lavish Ultra Lounge on West 117th Street. The first ever Dogtoberfest event was held on Saturday from noon to four o’clock, and City Park quickly filled up soon after it started. Dog breeds of all kinds could be seen, as owners brought their canines on leashes.  Goods and services, such as $5 nail trimmings, were offered within the pavilion.  Booths were set up throughout the building, offering dog food samples, dog toys, and pet care items. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a federal lawsuit against Kansas’ ban on same-sex marriage on behalf of two couples who were denied marriage licenses this week.
