WICHITA, Kan. (AP) The U.S. Air Force is holding a hearing in Wichita to gauge public support for McConnell Air Force Base as it considers sites for a new fleet of refueling tankers. The Wichita Eagle reports the Air Force in May named McConnell as the preferred site for 36 KC-46A tankers to be sited beginning in 2016. McConnell is already the world’s largest tanker base with 62 KC-135s. The hearing is Tuesday evening at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex on the Wichita State University campus. The magical run for the Manhattan High School Boys Soccer team came to an end Saturday at Junction City High School as the Tribe lost to Blue Valley Northwest 2-0 in the Class 6A State Final. Manhattan had reached the Final on Friday night with a 2-0 win over Olathe East in the State Semifinals. Manhattan’s Public Works Department held an open house Saturday morning to celebrate the completion of a five year, $23 million expansion and upgrade project at the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant. The project was completed in order to increase plant capacity, meet flows associated with projected population growth and conform to new nutrient removal requirements. The plant’s flow capacity increased from 8.7 million gallons per day to 11 million gallons per day and is projected to handle population growth until 2030. DOUGLASS, Kan. (AP) A Kansas prosecutor is reviewing whether to file charges against the driver of a school bus that toppled into a fast-moving creek. The Wichita Eagle reports that the Kansas Highway Patrol investigated the Oct. 31 accident at a low-water crossing in rural Butler County. The bus toppled on its side, and ten Kansas children had to scramble through an emergency side exit. They sat on top on the bus until they were rescued.
