By Jon Grove The Manhattan High girls tennis team turned in a strong effort Monday, finishing 9-3 and tying for first place with Shawnee Mission East at its home quad. It was the second home event of the season for the Indians, who continued to show progress across the lineup. Leading the way was the doubles team of Keylee Schartz and Jacque Hsu, who went a perfect 3-0 on the day. Riley County Police are investigating a theft case reported Tuesday afternoon at a Manhattan restaurant. Officers filed the report Sept. 23 around 1:47 p.m. in the 600 block of Tuttle Creek Boulevard. Police said Carlos O’Kelly’s and a 31-year-old woman were listed as victims after an unknown suspect fraudulently took money as payment. The total loss is estimated at $1,800. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact RCPD or Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Tipsters using Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward of up to $1,000. The Riley County Police Department says two people are in custody following a two-month investigation into a string of vehicle burglaries. According to Wednesday’s report, 19-year-old Adyson Westgate of Wamego was arrested Monday on Hayes Drive for two counts of criminal use of a financial card and one count of vehicle burglary. She was released after posting a $10,000 bond. The next day, 25-year-old Jesup McClelland of Manhattan was arrested on Freemont Avenue for three counts of criminal use of a financial card. His bond was set at $12,000, and he remains in the Riley County Jail. Police credited community…

By Toby Hammes Manhattan High volleyball battled two-time reigning Class 6A champion Mill Valley before bouncing back for a sweep of Tonganoxie in Monday’s home triangular. The Indians (8-4) opened against the Jaguars (13-3) and fell in straight sets, 25-20, 25-17.
