A Kansas City man, charged in connection with a first degree murder case, appeared in Geary County District Court Tuesday. The incident took place in September of 2013, when two other individuals were charged in the alleged murder of John Burroughs (68). Prosecuters say the stabbing of Burroughs happened after Anthony Nichols allegedly shot him in the head, but failed to kill him. Nichols was charged with first degree murder after Burrough’s death, but he also faces a first degree murder charge in Geary County regarding the shooting death of Anthony Nixon (37), of Junction City. A passion for changing the world is deeply rooted in Kansas State University student Ross Allen, junior in economics and philosophy, Soldier, which has earned him a 2014 Harry S. Truman Scholarship. The Truman scholarship is a national competition that provides up to $30,000 for graduate study to students committed to future careers in public service. Rock Creek’s Ryan Schneider became another local product to sign their letter of intent to play collegiate athletics. CLEVELAND (AP) Jason Kipnis and Michael Brantley hit two-run homers, powering the Cleveland Indians over the Kansas City Royals 4-3 Monday night. Kipnis connected in the sixth inning off Jeremy Guthrie, overcoming a 3-2 deficit. Brantley provided Cleveland a 2-0 lead in the fourth. Alex Gordon and Omar Infante each had two of the Royals’ six hits. Infante gave Kansas City a 3-2 lead in the 5th with an RBI single. Game 2 of the four game series between the Royals and Indians is at 6:05pm on Tuesday night in Cleveland.
As KMAN has previously reported, Governor Sam Brownback signed HB 2506 Monday, which addresses school funding. Before signing the legislation, Manhattan Ogden USD 383 school board member, Aaron Estabrook presented the governor with nearly 3,000 signatures of Kansans that asked him to not sign the bill, in order to keep due process rights for teachers. Despite Estabrook’s attempt, Brownback still signed the bill.
