The Pottawatomie County Sheriff received a report of a robbery in the 800 Willow block of St. Mary’s, at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday. A Gambino’s Pizza Delivery person reported that while he was delivery a pizza he was approached by the a suspect on foot. He was ordered to put the pizza on the ground and hand over the cash. Initially, the delivery person refused, but the suspect did produce a knife and walked towards the victim, yelling at him to give him the money. Ultimately, the delivery person gave up the cash, which contained an undisclosed amount and a check. …

For the first time in a few years, the K-State men’s and women’s basketball teams will host an event next month to tip off the season called “Madness in Manhattan.” There will be a special unveiling in the Bramlage Coliseum rafters honoring K-State’s basketball heritage, along with scrimmages, a dunk contest, and skills competitions by both teams. Wildcat coaches Bruce Weber and Deb Patterson and selected players will also address the crowd. “Madness in Manhattan” will be held Friday, October 25th at 8:30pm at Bramlage Coliseum. The school crossing guard issue was reviewed by the Wamego City Commission. At Tuesday’s meeting, City Manager Merl Page said he had looked into several options since the issue was brought up at the last meeting by Margaret Feyh and USD 320 Superintendent Denise O’Dea. One of the options was a pedestrian activated crossing, but had no firm numbers to share. Although the ribbon has already been cut, Allegiant Air, and its recently-announced service at the Manhattan Regional Airport, came across a bit of turbulence at Tuesday night’s Manhattan City Commission meeting. As Manhattan City Commissioners discussed the incentive package offered to bring Allegiant to the airport, several of the commissioners had their concerns…which ultimately could have put a stop to the service all together. Riley County District Court has denied a termination appeal from former RCPD officer, Ernest Hamilton. Hamilton was terminated for cause in October of 2010, and appealed his termination to the Riley County Law Enforcement Agency’s Law Board. The Board found that the termination was based upon substantial evidence and denied Hamilton’s appeal. Hamilton then appealed the decision to the District Court of Riley County, and the Court’s decision was entered on September 13, 2013. Judges from the Kansas Court of Appeals took the stage at Kansas State University’s Forum Hall Tuesday, in order to hear four cases. The three judge panel consisted of Judges Patrick D. McAnary of Overland Park, Anthony J. Powell of Wichita and Steve Leben of Fairway. Riley County District Court, Judge David L. Stutzman replaced Leben on the last case, as it involved The University of Kansas, and Leben teaches there part time.
