Manhattan city commissioners on Tuesday will decide whether they’ll authorize officials to hand over part of a city-owned lot downtown to Manhattan Housing Authority for construction of a 62-unit housing facility for to low- to moderate-income senior citizens. City officials have split the lot at the corner of Fifth and Pierre streets in two, with the western half set aside for use by Manhattan Housing Authority. A winter storm warning has been issued for our area. It will be in effect from 6pm this evening until midnight, Tuesday night. An extreme cold warning has also been issued and will be in effect from midnight tonight until noon, Thursday. An impactful winter storm moves in this evening and continues through the day Tuesday. K-State used a pair of 30-point quarters on Saturday to record a dominant win over UCF, 97-67, at Bramlage Coliseum. The Wildcats extended its home court winning streak to 16 games. This is tied for the sixth-longest home win streak in program history and tied for the third-longest in Bramlage Coliseum. By Lewis Marien ALMA — A hotel originally constructed in the 19th century has new life. Friday marked a grand opening of the two-story Brandt House, 402 Missouri Ave. in downtown Alma. Built in 1887 by Christena and Joseph Brandt, the hotel was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. After going through several ownership groups — and previously named the Alma Hotel — Brandt House’s current owners consist of Alma couples Morgan and Tyler Holloman, as well as Alex and Amanda Gnadt. The Salina Airport Authority announced Thursday that Amazon has purchased 20 acres for a new distribution center. The property is in Airport Industrial Center Subdivision No. 3, and the company plans a 90,000-plus-square-foot last-mile distribution facility at 1850 W. Water Well Road, officials said. The new facility, expected to generate at least 100 new jobs, will serve as a critical component of Amazon’s regional logistics network, further strengthening Salina’s role as a major economic hub in Kansas. Flint Hills Discovery Center Foundation officials on Wednesday announced they will recognize Carl Ice and Mary Ice at their annual spring event on April 11.
