Flint Hills Regional Council Executive Director Bill Clark is changing positions. Clark tells KMAN he is relinquishing his full time position with the Regional Council  as part of an organizational financial decision.   He will still work with the organization in a reduced capacity.   Clark has  accepted the position of Director of Business Operations with USD 475 in Geary County. Clark had talked on KMAN’s “In Focus”  last week about some pending changes in the leadership of the Flint Hills Regional Council.

The Flint Hills Metropolitan Planning Organization has hired URS Corporation out of Minneapolis to assist in the development of the region’s first Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). URS will team with Shockey Consulting, Schwab Eaton and Toole Design Group to prepare the multi-modal long-range plan.   The planning process will kick-off in April and take about 18 months to complete. A St. Mary’s man has been bound over on charges of second degree homicide and aggravated assault following a preliminary hearing in Pottawatomie county District Court.   Pablo Gonzalez will go before the district court for arraignment on February 25th and remains confined on a one million dollar bond.   Gonzaelz was arrested in connection with the death of  Levi Bishop, 24, of Rossville early New Year’s Day. Bishop was a passenger in a vehicle with Gonzalez and was found deceased inside the vehicle from a gunshot wound at about 4:43 a.m. that day.

A 35-year-old Ogden man was taken into custody by Riley county police Wednesday on a failure to appear warrant. Jody Hildebrand was arrested by police while at the Riley County Police Department  at about 11:45 AM. Hildebrand was arrested on a failure to appear warrant for the original offense of burglary. He was confined on $7,000 bond at the Riley County Jail. And Wednesday at 3:10 PM, the Riley County Police Department arrested Milly Vazquez, 19, of Manhattan for unlawful possession of a hallucinogen. Sbarro at the Manhattan Town Center has closed.  Sbarro Inc. says it’s closing 155 of its U.S. locations, mostly in mall food courts where traffic has declined. The Melville, N.Y.-based pizza chain said Wednesday the closures affect 1,400 workers. The move comes as the company is trying to improve its financial performance and update its image under yet another CEO who took over just last year. Sbarro filed for bankruptcy protection in April 2012 when it was no longer able to contend with declining sales and rising costs. It emerged from Chapter 11 protection in November 2012, saying that it had…

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A 31-year-old Wichita man is charged with first-degree murder in the death of an employee of Steckline Communications and former Kansas State student. Antwon D. Banks Sr. was charged Wednesday in the Feb. 9 death of Daniel Flores, 25.Banks made his first appearance in Sedgwick County District Court Wednesday via a video link from Sedgwick County Jail, where he is being held on $750,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 5. Flores’ body was found in the basement of Steckline Communications, which houses radio stations and Mid America Ag Network. Update: Noon Thursday   The early morning slick roads (Thursday) led to several accidents in the Riley County area, with 10 accidents being worked at the same time during the eight o’clock hour and one closing the K-18 bypass near Ogden for a while. That number was down to five accidents a half hour later, with two coded as involving injuries, but the injuries did not appear to be significant according to Riley County Police Public Information Officer Mat Droge. Two old business items made their way back on Wednesday night’s USD 383 school board meeting agenda. The first that was brought forward was a prelude to next week’s Winter Retreat concerning the virtual program in the district. During Wednesday’s meeting, a brief overview of the three year plan was brought forward for initial comments and to give those involved an extra week to prepare for additional questions. Some issues brought forward concerned financial implications of the school and whether the focus will be on in-district or out-of-district students, along with whether teachers will be in-district or out-of-district.
