A new principal has been named at Lee Elementary in Manhattan. The district announced Daniel Pray will move into that position, effective July 1. He has been the principal at Jackson Heights Elementary in Holton since August 2022 and was previously the MTSS Coordinator at Manhattan’s Anthony Middle School. He began his career as an elementary teacher at Rock Creek Schools. He holds degrees from Dana College in Blair, Nebraska and Fort Hays State where he recieved a Masters in Building Administration. The football organization welcomed 13-year-old Jude Fairchild to watch the Chiefs practice and join their team huddle May 28. Fairchild received a liver transplant last summer and has continued to receive treatment for his rare disease called progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis type 1, or PFIC-1, which is estimated to affect just 1 in 50,000 to 100,000 people worldwide. The Manhattan City Commission approved a resolution Tuesday night that establishes the Downtown Convention Parking Program for this year. Starting August 1st, the city will begin charging parking fees for the downtown garage. The action Tuesday will allocate transient guest tax, TGT, money to annually cover parking for conventions held in downtown Manhattan through the end of 2028. The approved resolution will allocate $115,000 to the Chamber’s Convention and Visitors Bureau and the commission has authority to change that amount every year. By Annie Wolfe, Pottawatomie County Times The Pottawatomie County Commission will hold off on a road agreement with a quarry, after concerns were raised by citizens Monday regarding the 10 cents per ton of aggregate sold that Mid-States Materials would pay to the county. That funding would be used for maintenance of the designated haul route from the quarry and for Wheaton Road. Citizens were concerned the agreed upon sum does not account for inflation. Commissioner Greg Riat says he’s fielded similar concerns, and noted more time was needed to explore other ways the agreement could be written to account for inflation. MANHATTAN, Kan. (K-State Athletics) – Kansas State added its fourth FBS transfer of the spring window on Tuesday with the signing of cornerback Jordan Dunbar to a Financial Aid Agreement. Dunbar comes to K-State after spending the previous four seasons at Rice. He redshirted the 2023 season and will have two more years of eligibility remaining.
