According to the Pottawatomie County Times, Pottawatomie County Appraiser Robin Knoblauch noted at Monday’s weekly commission meeting that through her own investigation, the estimated loss in value to the city is around $2.6 million. This included 17 properties that were total losses and 10 properties that were extremely damaged and are non-livable. In addition, about 43 other properties sustained minor to major damage. Officers filed a report of burglary on May 20, 2024, at approximately 8:44 AM in the 600 block of Schurle Way.  Officers listed 67,, 53, and 33-year-old males and a 74-year-old female as the victim when it was reported an unknown subject removed the lock from their storage unit and stole various items with a total estimated loss of $3,100.  Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers. By AJ Dome, The Mercury In what the Riley County EMS director called a rare shift, the county’s downtown EMS station recorded more emergency calls last month than the county’s main station at 2011 Claflin Road. David Adams told Riley County commissioners Monday that April data showed 479 total ambulance calls, mostly for sick people and for those who had fallen. Adams says Station 2, at 11th and Poyntz reported 154 calls, outpacing the 131 calls into Station 1 on Claflin Road. Brandon Colson, 38, of Manhattan was arrested on Saturday around Midnight in the 1000 block of Laramie Street. Colson was arrested on the probable cause offense of abusing a child: knowingly torturing, cruelly beating, or striking a child under 6 years old. Colson has previous convictions for burglary, forgery and aggravated escape from custody, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections. His total bond for this case was set at $100,000. Colson was still confined as of Monday morning.

Officers filed a report of rape on May 17, 2024, at approximately 11:15 AM in Manhattan. Due to the nature of this crime, no other details will be released at this time. Horashio Pritchett was arrested on May 17, 2024, at approximately 1:41 PM in the 500 block of Stone Drive.  Pritchett was arrested on a Riley County District Court warrant for domestic battery. The Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 school board confirmed in a press release late Friday that Amber Cook was named as the new principal of Oliver Brown Elementary School. Cook has served as the Early Childhood Center Principal for Geary County since August of 2021. Prior to that, she was a 5th and 3rd grade elementary classroom teacher in the Gardner-Edgerton School District from 2016-2021. Cook received a Bachelor of Arts from Kansas State University in Elementary Education and a Master of Science in School Leadership from Baker University.
