There were new faces on Wamego’s USD 320 Board of Education. Board Vice President Amy Schwein presided at the first board meeting of the 2013-14 year, and called for the nomination of president. Board Member Richard Weixelman nominated and called on the board to cast their unanimous vote for Amy Schwein. Richard Weixelman was elected Board Vice President after being nominated in the same manner by Board member Richie Chrest. The board began work on the 2013-14 school year. For the third day in a row the Manhattan area had power outage problems Tuesday morning. The last case was reported at 4:09 Tuesday morning and lasted until 5:04 a.m. Much of east Manhattan was impacted, including the city’s water treatment plant . Westar Spokesman Shane Batchelder tells KMAN 975 customers were affected, and the cause of the outage was a bird in the substation. Three outages were actually reported Sunday. The scene outside Marlatt hall on the Kansas State University campus looked like it was taken straight out of the latest Hollywood disaster movie this morning, as fire engines and trucks with satellite dishes and other communication devices gathered in the parking lot. NEW YORK (AP)   The Kansas City Royals are making a switch in their rotation, moving Bruce Chen into a starting role and shifting Luis Mendoza to the bullpen. Manager Ned Yost said Monday before the Royals faced the Yankees that this was the plan all along if Mendoza struggled. A 15-year veteran, Chen won 23 games as a starter for Kansas City the past two seasons. But Yost said it made sense to use Mendoza in the rotation when Chen was roughed up in spring training.
