Temporary concealed carry signs have been posted at some of the Riley County buildings. The current signs feature a clear background, but Public Works Director, Leon Hobson mentioned, during Thursday’s Riley County Commission meeting, the new signs will be on a white background. Commission Chair, Dave Lewis shared a list of important county buildings, in terms of concealed carry exemption, that he made. The courthouse, the commission building, Carnegie, and the shop site were a few listed buildings. A Fort Riley woman has been indicted on a charge of unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm. That’s according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom’s office Thursday, which indicates Kathy Rivera allegedly committed the crime this past January on the Fort Riley military installation. If convicted, Rivera faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Fort Riley Police investigated the case. No further details were available.

Governor Sam Brownback was in Manhattan today on the campus of Kansas State University to announce his three new appointees to the Kansas Board of Regents. Shane Bangerter, Ann Brandau-Murguia, and Helen Van Ettan will replace three outgoing board members, and each will serve a four year term. Brownback expressed confidence in his appointees saying “Shane, Ann, and Helen bring a great amount of experience and talent to the board and I am excited they’ve agreed to serve our great state”. It was a season of milestones for the K-State baseball team with the school’s first Big 12 title and Super Regional berth, and a school record 45 victories. The final college baseball polls were all released on Thursday, and the Cats are ranked in the top 15 of all five polls.  Baseball America tabbed K-State #13 in its final top 25.  The Cats were tabbed #19 in their previous highest finish in that survey back in 2009.  K-State was also #14 in the USA Today Coaches’, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), and Perfect Game College Top 25 polls.  Collegiate…

They took different paths to the cusp of the NBA, but a pair of players who spent four years playing basketball in the Little Apple have a chance to be selected in the league’s annual draft on Thursday night. Rodney McGruder was a decorated four-star guard out of Upper Marlboro, MD, and leaves K-State as one of its all-time greats.  He averaged a team-high 15.6 points and 5.4 rebounds during his senior season, in which he was named 1st team all-Big 12. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Alex Gordon drove in David Lough in the 10th inning Wednesday night, giving the Kansas City Royals a 4-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves and a split of their two-game series. Lough had entered the game the previous inning as a pinch hitter, but was still at-bat because Elliot Johnson was picked off first base to end the ninth.
