By Toby Hammes A shorthanded Kansas State men’s basketball leaned on a dominant second half from P.J. Haggerty to finally break through in Big 12 play, edging Utah 81-78 on Tuesday night at Bramlage Coliseum for the Wildcats’ first conference win of the season. “I’m super proud of them,” head coach Jerome Tang said. “I would’ve been proud of them if we were 5-0 and this happened. We’ve got high-character guys. They show up every day, they bring energy, and we’re learning how to move on to the next thing.” To view the full article visit theMercury.com. Click here for…
Manhattan city commissioners on Tuesday unanimously approved a $266,021 increase to the construction contract for the Anderson Avenue Water, Street and Stormwater Improvements Project. Mayor Susan Adamchak and commissioner Andrew Von Lintel were not present. The change order funds additional storm sewer work by Bayer Construction Company, including correcting an undersized pipe segment ($11,570) and rehabilitating curb inlets ($254,451). All additional work will be completed at original bid prices to take advantage of the current street closure and avoid future traffic and neighborhood disruptions. Geary County rural fire crews responded to three separate fire calls Tuesday afternoon, all happening within the span of about an hour. In a post on its Facebook page, the department said crews responded to a call at around 2:40 p.m. after welding on a fence sparked a large grass fire along Old Highway 13. Strong winds pushed the fire eastward, igniting more than 150 large hay bales, according to officials. Firefighters received mutual aid from Alta Vista Rural Fire and Riley County Fire District No. 1. Their efforts helped spare an additional 150 to 200 hay bales from the…
