The name of the shooting suspect in the Quality Inn disturbance, that occurred Tuesday morning, has been released. Dustin Monroe (33), of Wamego, was charged Thursday with three counts of aggravated assault, two counts of criminal discharge of a firearm in an occupied building or dwelling, and one county of felony criminal damage to property. His bond has been set at $250,000. If he is unable to make bond, he will make another appearance in Pottawatomie County District Court on December 17th.

ESPN.com is reporting that Texas Tech starting quarterback Baker Mayfield will transfer from the school after meeting with coach Kliff Kingsbury on Tuesday.  Mayfield cites a “miscommunication” with the coaching staff as his reason for leaving Tech.  The Austin, Texas native is a true freshman walk-on and would still need to get a release from the school to transfer. Mayfield started eight games for the Red Raiders as he missed four contests mid-season due to injury.  He passed for 2,315 yards with 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions. OVERBROOK, Kan. (AP) Two people are in custody after a standoff that lasted nearly seven hours in Osage County. Authorities say the standoff began about 1 p.m. Tuesday when Shawnee County officers tried to serve a warrant at an apartment in Overbrook. The man refused to come out. Osage County Sheriff Laurie Dunn says another person inside the apartment tried to flee shortly after the standoff began but was arrested. The wanted man ignored several attempts to communicate with him. About 8 p.m., authorities forced their way into his apartment and arrested him without incident. No one was injured during…

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Wichita will allow concealed guns in nearly all of its city-owned buildings including libraries, recreational centers and the Wichita Art Museum. The city council voted Tuesday to allow people carrying concealed guns in all but 16 of 107 city-owned buildings, beginning Jan. 1. The Wichita Eagle reports guns will be banned at City Hall, Mid-Continent Airport buildings, police buildings and city housing department facilities. Operators that lease city buildings, such as the Wichita Boathouse, will determine if guns will be allowed. WASHINGTON (AP) The Supreme Court says a lower court should not have overturned the conviction and death sentence of a man who admitted killing a Kansas sheriff. The high court Wednesday unanimously overturned the Kansas Supreme Court’s decision to throw out Scott Cheever’s death sentence for the 2005 fatal shooting of Greenwood County Sheriff Matt Samuels. The Kansas court said Cheever’s rights against self-incrimination were violated by prosecutors who used a court-ordered mental evaluation from a different trial against him. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) The Kansas Supreme Court will hear arguments next week in the appeals of two brothers sentenced to death for murders committed in December 2000. Justices have scheduled two-hour hearings on Tuesday for Jonathan Carr and his brother, Reginald Carr. The Carr brothers were convicted for killing three men and a woman on Dec. 15, 2000, as the victims knelt side-by-side on a snow-covered soccer field. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) A 67-year-old suburban Kansas City man has pleaded guilty to federal charges related to buying $1.8 million in contraband cigarettes. The U.S. Attorney’s office for western Missouri said in a release Wednesday that Randall H. McColley, of Overland Park,waived his right to a grand jury and pleaded guilty to conspiracy to traffic in contraband cigarettes. The prosecutor’s office says McColley admitted that he bought contraband cigarettes from undercover agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The undercover agents sold him more than 100,000 cartons of contraband cigarettes between May 2011 and February 2012.…
