SALINA, Kan. (AP) A Salina man has been sentenced to life in prison in the abuse death of his ex-girlfriend’s 14-month-old son. The Salina Journal reports that that 29-year-old Antonio Brown apologized before he was sentenced Friday. He will become eligible for parole after 20 years for first-degree murder in the 2011 death of Clayden Urbanek. If he’s granted parole then or at any other time, he then will have to serve an additional 16 years and two months for charges of child abuse and obstructing official duty. What an officer thought would be a minor traffic stop, turned into a shocking discovery. Around 2:15 Saturday morning, Junction City Police conducted a police stop in the 500 block of West 11th Street in Junction City.  The officer conducting the stop noticed one of the vehicle occupants was suffering from two non-life threatening gunshot wounds-one to the shoulder and one to the head. The victim was identified as Kadarian Romez Jones (23), of Junction City. The crane will arrive to hoist in the 50 foot tree up between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m. at Blue Earth Plaza, and the building of the tree will begin thereafter. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A longtime figure in state government who was appointed as executive director of the Kansas Lottery less than a year ago says he is stepping down from the job in January. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports Dennis Taylor is leaving to join a U.S. consulting firm providing technical assistance and training to local governments in Eastern Europe. Taylor also will teach part time at Washburn University in Topeka.

DOUGLASS, Kan. (AP) A southern Kansas school bus driver has been charged with endangering a child and reckless driving after his bus carrying 10 children slid off a road and into a rain-swollen creek. KAKE-TV reports Morris F. Peterson (64) was charged Friday in Butler County for the Oct. 31 incident in which he and the students had to be rescued by emergency responders. Three children suffered minor injuries. The Kansas Highway Patrol released a report earlier this month saying the driver misjudged the edge railing and drove off the side of the water-covered bridge. Jabril Trawick added 16 points for the Hoyas (2-2). Kansas State (2-3) fell in a 10-0 hole early and never could sting together a meaningful run. Thomas Gipson led the Wildcats with 18 points. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of a skid loader and trailer. The victim reported that sometime between 10:30 p.m. on November 16th, and 10:00 a.m. on November 17th, a 2005 Caterpillar 248B skid loader and a 2006 Redi Haul 18 foot bumper pull trailer had been stolen from a residential construction site near Appleyard Road, West of Wamego. The Cat skid loader had an enclosed cab, the seat was broken, and a padlock was on the fuel tank. The trailer is black in color, had two fold up ramps and was tandem axle. The right ramp…
