During the presentation, questions began to arise as to how long the fixes would last and when a new building may be needed. On Monday, June 10, a resurfacing project will begin on a 22.52-mile stretch of U.S. 24 in Riley and Pottawatomie Counties. Resurfacing work will take place on the following portions of U.S. 24: from the east U.S. 77 junction east to the K-13 junction (Riley County); from the east Riley County line to Excel Road (Pottawatomie County); and the eastbound lanes only from Excel Road to Wamego (Pottawatomie County). Project work includes a 1.5-inch surface mill and 1.5-inch asphalt overlay on mainline lanes. Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work. The Manhattan Fire Department responded to a small fire at Fourth and Pierre Street Wednesday evening. Demolition work has been going on at the location in recent days in preparation for the new CivicPlus building. The lot was formerly occupied by Manhattan Appliance and Sleep Source. According to Battalion Chief, Jim Blanck, an ember ignited the rubble and firefighters were called to the scene to contain the blaze. There were no evacuations or injuries, however thru traffic was warned to avoid the area as a safety precaution. The fire was reported around seven but was under control and cleaned up…

Let the preseason hype begin as Phil Steele has named four K-State players preseason all-Americans in his annual College Football Preview. Steele tabbed a pair of Wildcat juniors first team preseason all-American in former walkon BJ Finney at center, and Tyler Lockett at kickoff returner. Finney has started all 26 games in his Wildcat career, including the last 25 at center.
