Update as of Thursday morning KMAN has more information concerning a vehicle hitting a home Wednesday morning. Riley County Police said that Jalyssa Florez, 17, was driving southbound on Juliette and lost control of her 2008 Chevy Aveo while on a wet road. The vehicle crossed a residential yard and collided with a home on the 1200 block of Juliette at 8:20 in the morning. Estimated damage to the home was $1,000. The alternate truck Route through Wamego was reviewed at Tuesday’s City Commission meeting. Olsson Associates Mark Bachamp went over the revisions to the K-99 Truck Route Study. The revisions were made after a Public Forum in mid-May, where the public had an opportunity to offer suggestions. There were about 15 concerned citizens in attendance at this meeting too. The proposed plan is to route trucks from Balderson Boulevard south across 4th street, turning onto to Valley where they could connect onto Hwy. 99. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Gene Stephenson has been fired as head baseball coach at Wichita State after a 36-year career. Athletics director Eric Sexton announced the decision Tuesday, saying it was the “proper time to move into a new phase of Shocker baseball.” The 67-year-old Stephenson held a brief news conference, saying he had been forced to retire with a year left on his contract. Stephenson coached Wichita State to the 1989 national championship and seven College World Series appearances. He leaves with a career record of 1,837-675-3. (AP) Ryan Doumit homered and drove in a pair of runs Tuesday night, sending the Minnesota Twins to a 3-0 victory and the Kansas City Royals to their franchise-record 11th straight home loss. Samuel Deduno (2-1) allowed four hits over six-plus innings for the Twins, who have rebounded nicely from a 10-game losing streak to win eight of 10. The Manhattan city commission is concerned with developments which could lead to more flooding in the Wildcat Creek Watershed. A new Petsmart store development is proposed on a lot just south of Home Depot. That would put the main building onto the flood plain, and require fill dirt to be applied to lift the building to meet with current city safety specifications. Commissioner Rich Jankovich wasn’t convinced the developers understood his concerns with the plan. (AP) A Kansas coalition that’s been a vocal advocate for continued spending on highway projects is pleased that legislators preserved funding for the state’s ongoing transportation program. Economic Lifelines issued a statement after lawmakers adjourned their annual session this week praising them for keeping the state’s 10-year, $8.2 billion program intact. The program started in 2010. OLATHE, Kan. (AP) A northeast Kansas sheriff’s office has renewed its request for tips in the killings of two women 24 years ago. The body of Christina Brandolese was found in a rural part of southern Johnson County on May 30, 1989. The other victim, Candice Fisher, was found dead in the same area three days later. In a statement Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said Johnson County deputies worked more than 190 leads over the years. SENECA, Kan. (AP) Commissioners in a northeast Kansas county have declared a local disaster emergency from severe weather that brought floods and tornadoes to the region last week. KNZA-FM reports the Nemaha County Commission passed a resolution declaring the state of disaster emergency Monday after getting a damage report. County road and bridge supervisor Dennis Ronnebaum said flooding on May 28 wiped out three bridges and heavily damaged two others. He estimated the cost of the destruction at $600,000.
