K-State coach Deb Patterson announced the signings of three players to the 2014 recruiting class on Thursday, forward McKenna Treece, and guards Shaelyn Martin and Lauren Mertz. The trio all stands six feet or taller. Treece is a 6 foot 3 inch post from St. Peter’s, Missouri, who’s helped lead Incarnate Word Academy to two state titles, who is ranked #5 nationally as a team this season. Martin is a 6 foot guard from Salina Central, who committed to the Wildcats during her sophomore year. She’s a three-time all-state pick that nearly averaged a double-double last season at 11.3 points and 9.6 rebounds…

Funeral services were held late Thursday morning for Sgt. First Class Forrest Robertson of Westmoreland, who was killed in action in Afghanistan earlier this month. His service was held at Wamego’ s Trinity Baptist Church and burial, with full military honors, followed in Wamego City Cemetery. The ceremony was enhanced by American flags all along the route, at the direction Wednesday from Larry ” The Flagman” Eckhardt . The Flagman travels around the country with 1,600 flags, which are installed or planted along the funeral route of a fallen soldier. More than 300 volunteers assisted in the flag planting endeavor.

ABILENE, Kan. (AP) A former Kansas teacher will spend 15 weekends in jail for having sexual relations with a 17-year-old male student. The Abilene Reflector-Chronicle reports Amber Stroda, 28, will also serve three days of probation under the sentence she received Wednesday in Dickinson County District Court. Stroda taught third grade at Solomon Elementary School and was also a dance team sponsor at Solomon High School. She resigned from her teaching job in October 2012.
