Kansas legislators have been touring the state to visit all of the higher education universities, and they made the stop at Kansas State University Tuesday morning. University President, Kirk Schulz presented facts and statistics that outlined the university’s goals, including the plan to become a top 50 research university by 2025. Some of the initiatives the university has taken so far, to achieve this, include-hiring 1st national academy winner, building the new west stadium at the football field, and opening an honors house for honor students. Sunset Zoo’s newest animal addition – a male Amur leopard – is on public exhibit beginning Tuesday. Vlad, short for Vladamere, can be seen in the former snow leopard exhibit along the Zoo’s Asian Trail. A female leopard is expected to arrive later this week and will join Vlad on exhibit sometime in November or early December. Community members can visit the new resident daily from 9:30am to 5:00pm through Thursday or beginning Friday, the Zoo transitions to winter hours, opening daily from Noon to 5:00pm. The City of Manhattan will celebrate the commencement of construction to expand the terminal at Manhattan Regional Airport (MHK) during a groundbreaking ceremony at 9 a.m. Friday, November 1, 2013, near the front entrance to the existing terminal. Construction plans call for an expansion of the terminal building from 12,500 square feet to approximately 42,000 square feet, which includes two enclosed passenger boarding bridges. The airport will remain fully operational during construction, with the work taking place in two phases. Riley County Police arrested a 30-year-old Ohio woman on a warrant involving burglary, theft, and criminal damage charges. Jennifer King was taken into custody at about 11 Monday night on the Riley County warrant. King’s bond was set at $20,000. ### Riley County Police have announced the arrest of Dominique Knox, 20, of Manhattan for criminal use of a financial card, theft of property, and forgery. A plea has been entered in connection with the April shooting at the University Garden apartment complex. According to Riley County Attorney Barry Wilkerson, Matthew Wilson, 43, entered a plea to the 1st degree murder of Michael Lowery, the Attempted First Degree Murder of Dustin Ferguson, the Attempted First Degree Murder of Joel Solano and the Aggravated Battery of Christine Kim and the Aggravated Battery of Alexya Mailea.
