TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A national group is praising new features in Kansas driver’s licenses as a model for protection against fraud. Brian Zimmer, president of the Coalition for a Secure Driver’s License, presented an award Wednesday to officials of the Kansas Division of Vehicles. The Washington-based nonprofit organization praised the Kansas cards for their design and security measures. The changes went into effect in October and include features that make the licenses difficult to counterfeit. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A pastor accused of stalking the woman who opened an abortion clinic in Wichita is expected to be in court. The allegations against Mark Holick stem from a move by an abortion-rights group, Trust Women Foundation, to open a clinic offering abortions and other medical services. It opened earlier this month in the shuttered building that housed the clinic of Dr. George Tiller, who was shot to death by an abortion opponent in May 2009. The group held a special meeting Thursday night, with a budget presented by Director Brad Schoen well-received by the group. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) A Douglas County judge has rejected a former Kansas State University professor’s lawsuit challenging his prison sentence for killing his ex-wife. Thomas Murray is serving a sentence of 25 years to life for the stabbing death of 40-year-old Carmin Ross in November 2003 in her home in Lawrence. He filed a civil lawsuit in January challenging the sentence, claiming that his attorney did not properly defend him during his 2005 trial.
