At Wednesday night’s Manhattan Ogden school board meeting, two public service announcements were shown to the board. The PSA’s were designed and created here in the USD 383 school district. The purpose as Doug Messer, Transportation Director, mentioned is to make people more aware of the consequences of running a stopped school bus. Riley County EMS responded to an accident involving a Jeep Liberty and the side of Aldi on 24 hwy, Wednesday afternoon at around 3 p.m. The female driver (unknown age) was not seriously injured in the crash. The wall however, wasn’t as fortunate and sustained moderate damage.
For a second straight season, K-State’s men’s basketball season attendance finished in the top 25 nationally. The Wildcats attracted 12,528 fans per game to 18 home games this past season to rank 24th nationally and third in the Big 12. It’s the highest mark nationally for K-State since 1988-89 when the Wildcats finished 21st in the country. This year’s attendance number did include the 16,303 fans that attended the Hy-Vee Wildcat Classic at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. John Hubert is one of 35 players on the watch list for the inaugural Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, given to the top offensive player from the state of Texas. Hubert has back-to-back 900 yard rushing season for the Wildcats and was a first team all big 12 selection last year. This season Hubert is already a candidate for the Maxwell, Doak Walker and Walter Camp awards. He was also a preseason all-big 12 selection by the league as well. As of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Eureka Drive at the intersection of Skyway Drive is now closed to all traffic in Manhattan. Skyway Drive is now open to traffic. All traffic that previously used Wildcat Creek Road to Eureka Drive to Scenic Drive is now encouraged to continue straight on Skyway Drive to Scenic Drive. Eureka Drive will reopen on Saturday, August 31.
A man accused of a home invasion in October of 2012 which, according to police, resulted in the shooting of a Kansas State University student, had a retrial hearing on Wednesday afternoon in Riley County District Court. The Levertis Horne retrial was set for the week of February 3rd and is expected to last 5 days. Jury selection will take place on January 31st. Levertis Horne is facing two counts of aggravated robbery, two counts of attempted aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, and aggravated battery. During the incident, authorities say K-State student Chase Cargile was shot in the upper torso. Horne’s original trial began on Tuesday, August 6th, but was declared…
