An electrical fire was reported at Weber Hall on the Kansas State University Campus at 1:55 p.m. Friday. According to Batallion Chief Jim Blanck with the Manhattan Fire Department, reports that upon arrival firefighters found maintenance personnel had already extinguished the fire and the building had been evacuated. Batallion Chief Blanck tells KMAN that electricians had been working at Weber Hall when the fire began. No injuries were reported and other than minor damage to the electrical panel from the fire, the building is reported to be structurally sound.
Riley County Police reported a serious one-vehicle accident at approximately 3:25 p.m. Friday on Highway 77 and Norlin Road or milepost 198.3 about three and a half miles north of Randolph in Northern Riley County. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol’s Crash Report, 23-year old Colton Schoenrock of Fairbury, Nebraska was traveling Northbound on Highway 77 when his 2003 Mazda went off the road and into the west ditch where it struck a tree. The Highway Patrol reports the vehicle then vaulted over a driveway before landing on its passenger side. Schoenrock was pronounced dead at the scene. It does…
The state of Kansas has recognized a Manhattan retirement community for improvements within their facility’s program. The Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community was awarded the Promoting Excellent Alternatives in Kansas (PEAK) award Thursday for focusing their community toward a person-centered care program. Person-centered care allows Meadowlark residents to have a say in their day-to-day lives including when they would like to eat and when they would like to sleep. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Wichita officials say the city’s bus system could be out of money by 2015, and taxpayers will be asked to help keep the buses running. Transit director Steve Spade is conducting an internal review of the system, including quality of service, accuracy of schedules and vehicle maintenance. The Wichita Eagle reports city officials are finishing work on a position statement about the transit system’s future. After that’s done, Layton says Wichita residents will be asked to help decide the bus system’s future. About 2 million riders have used the buses in each of the last two years.…
