Kansas State University, along with the other Kansas Board of Regents schools, has requested a four-year exemption from allowing the concealed carry of weapons on campus. In accordance with House Bill No. 2052, Kansas State University will be included in the four-year exemption. K-State’s assistant vice president for public safety Ronnie Grice says this exemption will allow the adequate time to look at all aspects of how the new law impacts the university. The university has signs where weapons are prohibited. The university’s general weapons policy also will remain unchanged during this four-year period.

The 18th annual Country Stampede is underway at Tuttle Creek State Park. However at about 7:15 Thursday night attendees were asked to seek shelter until lightning cleared. No Justice and The Cadillac Three were able to perform before the delay. Power was lost to the stage at about eight, but it was nine before the stage was dried off and prepared. A federal grand jury on Thursday returned a 30-count indictment against 19-year old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, in the Boston Marathon bombings, and many of the charges carry the possibility of life in prison or the death penalty.

Though the exact cause has not been determined, the recent storm Thursday night looks to have some impact. According to the Westar Energy outage map, there were 1,296 customers without power in Riley County and another 105 in Pottawatomie County without power. After speaking with a representative, power was expected to be back within a couple of hours.
