Kansas State University, along with the other Kansas Board of Regents schools, has requested a four-year exemption from allowing the concealed carry of weapons on campus. In accordance with House Bill No. 2052, Kansas State University will be included in the four-year exemption. K-State’s assistant vice president for public safety Ronnie Grice  says this exemption will allow the adequate time to look at all aspects of how the new law impacts the university. The university has signs where weapons are prohibited. The university’s general weapons policy also will remain unchanged during this four-year period.

The NBA draft came and went on Thursday night in Brooklyn, New York, and neither MHS grad Jackie Carmichael nor K-State standout Rodney McGruder went off the board after two rounds and 60 picks.  Carmichael, who had an all-Missouri Valley career at Illinois State, was considered by NBA Draft experts to be a surprise not to be selected. Both players are expected to get a chance to play in the NBA Summer League. The 18th annual Country Stampede is underway at Tuttle Creek State Park. However at about 7:15 Thursday night attendees were asked to seek shelter until lightning cleared. No Justice and The Cadillac Three were able to perform before the delay. Power was lost to the stage at about eight, but it was nine before the stage was dried off and prepared. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Samuel Deduno pitched seven sharp innings and one of Justin Morneau’s two doubles drove in Minnesota’s first run, sending the Twins to a 3-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night. Though the exact cause has not been determined, the recent storm Thursday night looks to have some impact. According to the Westar Energy outage map, there were 1,296 customers without power in Riley County and another 105 in Pottawatomie County without power. After speaking with a representative, power was expected to be back within a couple of hours. As of about 10 pm, there were only 455 customers still in Riley and five in Pottawatomie County without power. Keep with KMAN for any sever weather information.
