Due to an anticipated major winter storm, Kansas State University will close the Manhattan and Salina campuses on Thursday, Feb.21. The National Weather Service forecast calls for heavy snow to begin Thursday morning and continue through the day, creating hazardous travel conditions. Essential employees should report to work to maintain mission critical operations. The university expects a return to normal operations at both campuses on Friday. What KMAN first reported nearly two weeks ago is now finalized as former Kansas State Wildcat Football standout Andre Coleman is returning to the program after a nearly 20-year absence. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Head Football Coach Bill Snyder. A four-year letterwinner at wide receiver under Snyder from 1990-93, Coleman spent the last three seasons on head coach and former K-State offensive lineman Eric Wolford’s staff. Coleman, who went on to have a successful five-year career in the NFL as a player, also became the first Wildcat football player to score a touchdown in a Super Bowl.…

After a Manhattan man was arrested on a warrant, he reported numerous items had been taken from his residence as well. Scott Pittenger (26) was arrested around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday for a warrant for motion to provoke probation. This warrant stems from two different charges-driving while suspended and no proof of insurance. His bond was set at $1,000. It is unknown whether Pittenger reported a residential theft while he was in jail, or after he bonded and returned home, but he did report numerous items were missing from his residence. Wamego’s electric rates topped the agenda list at Tuesday’s City Commission meeting. City Manager Merl Page reminded the Commission back when the City renegotiated the contract for wholesale power supply, a decision was made to have regular rate reviews. He said a review has been in the works for the last several months, and the preliminary report found the revenue requirements are 7 to 8 percent greater than current levels. A contract for 40 million dollars toward utility work at the National Bio and Agro defense facility to be built in Manhattan reportedly has come through. U-S Senator Jerry Moran of Manhattan made that announcement Tuesday, indicating the Senate Appropriations committee he serves on had just received news of the contract award. The Manhattan City Commission meeting on Tuesday night saw the passing of several rezoning measures to allow new construction projects to go forward.  However, it was the final general agenda item that caused some debate.
