WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A Wichita man has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for shooting at police while trying to get away after robbing a fast-food restaurant. The U.S. Attorney’s office says Paul Sifuentez, 56, was sentenced Thursday on several charges to which he pleaded guilty in November. The charges stemmed from a June 7 robbery at a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Wichita. Failure to appear charges had two people behind bars. Joshua Dantzler, 26, of Topeka, was arrested for failure to appear on the original charge of driving with a canceled, suspended or revoked license. His bond was set at $5,000. Kelli Berry, 24, of Scott City, had two FTAs, failure to appears, with the original charges stemming from a computer crime and another from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Berry’s total bond was $18,000.
Two people have been arrested in connection with the robbery of Dara’s earlier this week, but that wasn’t where the investigation began however. The Riley County Police Department were investigating a criminal damage to property report. From their investigation, the RCPD received a search warrant that lead to the discovery of items that were taken from the Dara’s Fastlane during the robbery. Dennis Denzien, 20, of Manhattan was arrested for aggravated robbery, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $55,000. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Legislation intended to give Kansas prosecutors a new tool for curbing criminal gang activity has cleared the state Senate on a vote of 37-0. The vote Thursday sent the measure to the House. Attorney General Derek Schmidt has described the proposal as an anti-racketeering law that would let prosecutors go after gangs for alleged patterns of criminal activity as well as single criminal acts. The bill defines racketeering as an activity to collect unlawful debts, such as loans or gambling losses.
