LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) Kansas officials are seeking bids from developers interested in building a resort at Clinton Lake near Lawrence. A consultant prepared a study for the Kansas Department of Commerce for a 175-room resort that would include a conference center and other amenities. The study did not specify a site but suggested a location near an existing marina on the northeast side of the lake, which is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. HAYS, Kan. (AP) A northwest Kansas county has banned the sale and discharge of fireworks in rural areas during the Fourth of July holiday. The Hays Daily News reports the Ellis County commission this week rescinded an earlier resolution to allow the sale of fireworks in rural areas. The Ellis County cities of Hays, Ellis, Schoenchen and Victoria have also banned the sale and use of fireworks over the holiday because of dry conditions.

Wamego officials addressed the concealed carry issue at Tuesday’s City Commission meeting. City Attorney Jake Pugh announced the Kansas Legislature recently passed House Bill 2052 and Governor Brownback signed it into law. The bill authorized concealed carry in State and municipal buildings. Pugh said the bill allows for prohibition in some buildings, and the cities can opt-out because there are different avenues the City can take. Two people died in a two vehicle accident on highway 24, a mile east of Seth Child Road in Manhattan, which closed Tuttle Creek Boulevard down for about two hours Tuesday afternoon. The fatalities have been identified as 90 year old Frederick Danenberg and 85 year old Michael Myers, both of Manhattan. According to the Kansas Highway patrol, Danenberg was driving a 2001 Toyota passenger car and had been stopped at a stop sign facing south onto highway 24. Danenberg reportedly pulled out in front of a 1999 Freightliner semi-truck driven by 23 year old Christian Rodriguez of Wichita, with Danenberg’s vehicle…
