Fred White, the long-time play-by-play voice of the Kansas City Royals who was with the organization for 40 years has died. Before joining the Royals White served as the play-by-play voice of Kansas State Football and Basketball from 1967-73 and then went on to broadcast Royals games for 25 years from 1973-98 before becoming the Director of Broadcast Services and Royals Alumni until this week when he announced his retirement. White also worked for many other networks over the years and in more recent years broadcast Big 12 Basketball games on television. Funeral arrangements for White are pending at this…

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Kansas senators have approved a bill, Wednesday, authorizing the state to issue an additional $202 million in bonds for a new bio-defense lab in Manhattan. The Senate voted 32-8 despite concerns from conservative Republicans that the state couldn’t afford the additional investment. Gov. Sam Brownback says the bonds will complete the state’s financial obligation to the federal government to build the National Bio- and Agro-Defense Facility at Kansas State University. The lab would research dangerous animal diseases and replace an aging facility on Plum Island, N.Y. Its projected cost has more than doubled to $1.15 billion…

The Wamego City Commission held a Public Forum to update residents on the latest Truck Route Study. At Tuesday’s meeting, City Manager Merl Page said the City has been working on transportation enhancement for the last several years because of increased truck traffic and current zoning changes along Valley Street. He added the City and County have applied for Federal Grant Funds for enhancement and upgrades to handle truck traffic, but have been denied twice. Jeremy Guthrie was putting an eighteen game unbeaten streak on the line last night in LA against the Angels. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) The Kansas Senate has given first-round approval to Gov. Sam Brownback’s proposal to authorize an additional $202 million in bonds for a new, national biodefense lab in Manhattan. The bill advanced Tuesday on a voice vote after brief debate. Approval on a second vote scheduled Wednesday would send it to the House.
